About Dr. Shaikh

Dr. Shaikh is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Adult Psychiatrist with over 17 years of service to children, families and adults in both private practice and community based services.

​

He is known for his ability to connect with his patients, becoming the first Physician to receive the prestigious Law Offices of Silicon Valley LACY Honors Award for his care of youth and families receiving residential, wraparound and outpatient services.

​

He uses a strength based approach to healing focused on developing self-awareness through compassion.  As part of the healing process, he supports families in their journey to uncover the wisdom hidden in their distress.

​

He has experience in treating depression, anxiety, OCD, ADHD, Autism Spectrum disorders and trauma.

​

He specializes in Mind Body approaches to healing, integrating yoga, exercise, nutrition and restful sleep strategies into treatment plans.  

​

He has given  trainings on Strength Based Diagnosis, Psychotropic Medications, Somatic Experiencing, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Spirituality in Mental Health Care.

Dr. Shaikh was the Resident Teacher of the Year at the University of Michigan, where he completed undergraduate studies, medical school and Adult Psychiatry training.  He completed his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry training at Stanford University.

​

Dr. Shaikh's approach to diagnosis involves a thorough evaluation of both strengths as well as symptoms.   Sleep, nutrition, exercise, relationships and exposure to nature are addressed along with potential need for medication.   If medication is recommended,  a plan using the lowest possible dose and duration will be emphasized.

Dr. Shaikh believes his most influential training came from raising his three children.  He enjoys coaching soccer and traveling with his family.
